PSU received a verbal commitment from Cammeron Woodyard, a 6’5″ shooting guard from Winters Mill High School in Westminster MD. Cammeron had flown under the radar of most programs because, prior to this season, he had been a post player. Not many D1 programs are interested in 6’5″ posts (Jamelle Cornley notwithstanding). However, Winters Mill had a 6’8″ kid transfer in this year which let Woodyard move to his more natural guard position. Now that he’s averaging 20 ppg as a shooting guard, he’s starting to attract more attention.
I’ve read reports of Virginia Tech, Holy Cross, Youngstown State, Loyola, and Jacksonville as schools that have been interested in Woodyard.
The recent departure of Sky King and the announcement of Nikola Obradovi’s early graduation opened up two more scholarships for next year. With Woodward joining Billy Oliver and Villanova transfer Andrew Ott in the 2008-09 class, PSU will still have two open ships available. I would expect that DeChellis would primarily still be looking to add another guard/wing forward type player.
