Against the Odds (Round of 32)

My opening round picks against the odds finished at 8-4. Best of all, my top four picks, i.e. those with the biggest delta vs Vegas, were all winners. If I were a betting man that would be nice money in my pocket.

Here’s the picks for the round of 32 using the same criteria, my predicted spread must be at least three points greater than Vegas line. The number in parens represents my delta from the Vegas prediction.

North Carolina over Arkansas by 12 – pick Arkansas (3.9) – loss
UCLA over Texas A&M by 10.5 – pick A&M (3.8) – loss
Pitt over Michigan St by 2.5 – pick Michigan St (3.6) – win
Kansas over UNLV by 13.0 – pick Kansas (3.2) – win

Regular season ends with Penn State going for its fifth straight home win which I sure most fans thought would be an impossibility once Claxton went down for the season in the third Big Ten game of the season.

Game Prediction 03/06/08

Penn State has two ways to claim the seventh seed in the Big Ten tournament. One, would to beat Indiana on Sunday and that would give them a seventh place finish in the B10 all by their lonesome. The other would be to wind up in a four way tie with Illinois, Michigan, and Iowa (PSU would win the overall tiebreaker among the four teams).

Michigan State can help clear up that situation a little by heading into Champaign tonight and winning. You would think that would be easy, but the power rankings continue to say that Illinois is a much better team than their record would indicate and they only install the Spartans as a one point favorite.
