Not much change at it in either of the rankings. In the RPI, PSU slips three spots from 155 to 158 despite winning the game, reflecting the impact of Illinois’ poor 11-15 win/loss record. In the Pomeroy Ranking, there was no change as PSU remained at number 96. The low scoring 52-51 game meant that [...]
Purdue/Illinois Power Ranking Update
Given that both teams won last night I thought it would be interesting to take a look at their updated rankings (I also changed the timeline so it would be twice a week, after they both played). Looks familiar – they both track together.
Big Ten Power Rankings (02/12/08)
Purdue continues their unlikely climb through the power rankings moving up to 26th according to Pomeroy. Still they aren’t where you would traditionally expect the outright B10 conference leader to sit. Nor are they getting the votes in the polls that you would expect (19th in the AP and 23rd in the Coaches). # Team [...]
RPI and Power Rankings (02/12/08)
While PSU doesn’t appear to have much of a chance at post season play, I’ll continue to publish these weekly for sake of completeness. The loss at Michigan caused the expected dive in RPI but not much change in the Power Rankings. For the last few games we’ve been sitting solidly in the mid 90s. [...]
Big Ten Power Rankings (02/08/08)
Quite frankly, poor Illinois can’t catch a break. According to the Power Rankings, they should have a much better record than they do. If you believe the numbers they should be fighting for an NCAA berth not fighting to stay out of the Big Ten basement. The power rankings predicted a 64-63 one point win [...]
RPI and Pomeroy Rankings (02/05/08)
As of Tuesday the 5th, Penn State’s Pomeroy Ranking was 102nd while their RPI Ranking was 129. Penn State’s performance against Ohio State last week flattened their Pomeroy Ranking downward spiral since Claxton’s injury. That’s an indicator that the team may be over the devastating loss of their star and also that the power rankings [...]
Big Ten Power Rankings (02/05/08)
Wisconsin remains atop the rankings as they have all season. Penn State stops their slide down the national rankings with their huge upset of Michigan State. Illinois continues to maintain a decent power ranking but seems unable to be able to translate that into wins on the court. They seem overdue to start winning games. [...]
RPI and Pomeroy Rankings (01/21/08)
Penn State’s Pomeroy rating slipped five places to #76 following their loss to Indiana. However, their RPI rating climbed 13 places to #127 despite the loss, reflecting the heavy weight that strength of schedule carries in the RPI rankings.
Big Ten Power Rankings (01/21/08)
Wisconsin continues to lead the Power Rankings as they have all season. While they still trail Indiana and Michigan State in the media polls, they have closed the gap considerably and now sit at #11 just one spot behind MSU in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls. # Team Pace Off Def Pwr Rank [...]
